The Problem
80-85% of school children are visual learners, and this method of learning may be lacking within a classroom setting.
The Solution
4/5 of children have access to iPads at home, so I created a storybook-like app with gamification features to encourage and reward learning.

Designing For a Younger Audience
From my research I learned that children respond better to more rounded, clear fonts and bright, playful colours, so this was reflected in the UI design. My goal was to strike the balance between providing user delight and usability.

Defining the Users
Although the app is designed for school children, it was also important to think about parents and teachers, as they will have touchpoints for the product also.

Developing the Flow
I usually do my lo-fi wireframes digitally, but for this project I found it beneficial to do most of my development on paper and to sketch out visuals, as they were a huge aspect of the product.

Building character(s)
The inspiration for the artwork was primarily child storybooks, as they are very succesful in creating engaging characters and elements. I kept the design as minimal as possible and avoided textures to prevent distraction from the educational content. My final product takes the user through the 'forest', where they can explore different animals, plants and objects and discover what elements they are made out of.
